Dear Global SE™ Community,
Today we write with deep love and deep grief. As many of you have already heard, Euphrasia (Efu) Nyaki, a beloved SE faculty member since 2011, passed away in Seoul, South Korea, on Saturday. During an evening in Seoul, she had an Abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture (AAA rupture) and a Thoracic aortic aneurysm rupture. This news has taken us all by shock and left us in grief.
In the past few days, we have also witnessed firsthand the impact Efu has had on the global SE community. The Korean community has come together to offer a memorial service and a funeral. Groups from Africa, India, the United States, and beyond are gathering to honor Efu and her impact on us all.
If you have met Efu, you know that her presence was one of love and vitality. She embodied and exuded a life force through her smile and her laughter that could fill a room and felt like it could fill an entire city. Her presence was one of love and reverence. And she was always dancing, reminding us all that, especially in trauma work, dancing and laughter and love are key.
Efu taught all over the world, on nearly every continent. She brought her grounded, loving presence dressed in yellow and orange to Somatic Experiencing and Family Constellations trainings. Her unique flavor of SE included ancestral and collective connection and healing.
As we all grieve Efu’s transition, may she be met and welcomed by her ancestors. We know she is dancing and continuing to inspire us to love, to connect, and to live our lives open to life energy flowing through all of us and the world. Efu always reminded us that everyone belongs, that we can all do our part, and that we all need to love and be loved.
